Brain-Boosting Plant-Based Parmesan Cheese

Before going vegan and plant-based, my biggest food addiction was cheese. I literally put it on everything and had no self-control over how much of it I would eat...pretty embarrassing now that I think about it.  So giving up cheese was one of the hardest parts of my transition and required me to be creative.  I'm all about simplicity, practicality, and functionality.  This plant-based parmesan cheese fits that entire bill!  Simple, quick, practical to make and use in our busy lives and serves a nutritional function to our bodies.  It's made from hemp seeds, nutritional yeast, and garlic powder. That's it! But, boy, it sure does pack a nutritional punch!

Hemp hearts are loaded with high-quality plant-based protein and omega 3s. The protein is essential for building and muscle, skin, hair, nails and maintaining the proper function of our internal muscular organs, including our hearts and lungs!

Likewise, Omega-3 fatty acids are critical for good brain health!  As the cells in our bodies, particularly our brains, rely on healthy fats, this is essential for cognitive abilities, mood stability, thought clarity and are now showing to have incredibly positive effects on our hearts and blood pressure!

I make this in my blender cup and then store it, covered, in the fridge for several weeks and use it on salads, soups, sandwiches, pasta, stir-fries, and pretty much anything you'd put parmesan cheese on (and then some)!

It's simple enough to make and is basically a 1:1:1 ratio of ingredients, so you really can't go wrong.  And if your ratios are off, don't even stress about it! It's still delicious and enjoyable!

Ingredients

  • Nutritional Yeast
  • Hemp Hearts
  • garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Grind all of the ingredients together until a powdery texture forms
  2. Pulse when you grind it so that it doesn't stick to the sides of your grinder.

Notes

  • You can use a coffee grinder, a magic bullet, or a blender!
  • Bonus points if you use a nutritional yeast that is fortified with a plant-based source of Vitamin B12 (I find mine at the Bulk Barn in Canada and their labels specifically say it's a plant-based source of vitamin B12!!!)
